Plastics Processing Equipment — Q1 2026 Market Outlook

The plastics processing equipment market entered 2026 with uneven demand across categories. Injection molding remains the most active segment. Here is what buyers and sellers need to know heading into the second quarter.

By Sean Reid, KD Auctions

The plastics processing equipment market is not one market: it is four or five distinct markets that happen to involve polymers. Injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, thermoforming, and auxiliary equipment each follow their own supply/demand dynamics, buyer pools, and pricing trends. Treating them as a single category leads to mispriced assets and missed opportunities.

Here is where each segment stands heading into Q2 2026.

Injection Molding

The strongest segment in Q1. Demand from medical device, automotive, and consumer products manufacturers is keeping values firm on late-model electric and hybrid presses. Engel, Arburg, and Milacron all-electric machines are trading at 55–70% of new cost at auction, strong by historical standards.

Hydraulic presses in the 100–500 ton range have softened. Older hydraulic equipment is plentiful, buyers are selective about condition, and energy efficiency requirements are pushing manufacturers toward electric alternatives. Sellers with older hydraulic equipment should price accordingly.

Electric injection molding presses are commanding a meaningful premium over hydraulic equivalents of similar vintage. If you have all-electric presses to liquidate, this is a favorable market.

Blow Molding

Extrusion blow molding demand is steady, driven by packaging and container manufacturers. Accumulator head machines in the mid-range tonnage are the most active category. Injection blow and injection stretch blow equipment is more specialized: buyer pools are smaller, which means marketing reach matters more.

Graham, Uniloy, and Bekum machines in good condition are finding buyers. Older single-head machines are slow: the buyer pool has shrunk as manufacturers have shifted to multi-head configurations for efficiency.

Extrusion

Sheet and film extrusion equipment has seen softer demand as packaging manufacturers rationalize capacity. Twin-screw compounding extruders remain in demand from the masterbatch and compounding sector. Pipe and profile extrusion equipment is steady, driven by construction sector demand.

Davis-Standard, Battenfeld, and Cincinnati Milacron extrusion lines in good condition are moving well at auction. Buyers are doing their homework: condition inspection matters, and equipment that has been properly maintained commands a meaningful premium.

Thermoforming

Heavy-gauge thermoforming is active, driven by industrial packaging and automotive trim applications. Thin-gauge equipment is more volatile, tied closely to food packaging demand, which is under margin pressure from material costs.

Brown Machine, Kiefel, and Illig equipment in good condition is finding buyers. Older equipment requiring significant tooling investment is moving slowly.

Auxiliary Equipment

Chillers, dryers, granulators, robots, and conveying systems are consistently strong sellers at plastics-focused auctions. These items attract a wider buyer pool than primary processing equipment and often recover at or above book value.

What This Means for Sellers

If you are planning to liquidate a plastics processing facility, the current market rewards specificity. Know what you have, document its condition, and work with a firm that has sector-specific buyer relationships. A general industrial auctioneer marketing injection molding equipment to a general buyer list will underperform a specialist with dedicated plastics buyer databases.

KD Auctions has a dedicated plastics processing team with buyer relationships across injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, and compounding. If you are evaluating your options, the conversation starts with an honest assessment of what you have and how to position it.
