How to Bid at an Industrial Equipment Auction: Step-by-Step Guide

Everything a first-time or experienced buyer needs to know to register, bid, win, and remove equipment from a KD Auctions sale.

1

Register for the Auction

Each KD auction requires separate registration. Go to the auction listing page, click "Register to Bid," and complete the form with your name, company, address, and a valid credit card for the refundable deposit (if required). Registration is free.

2

Review the Auction Terms

Before bidding, read the Terms & Conditions for that specific auction. Pay particular attention to the buyer's premium percentage, payment deadline (per the auction's terms, often as short as 24 hours, so check your invoice immediately), removal window, and any "as-is, where-is" conditions.

3

Attend the Inspection Day

Inspection days are strongly recommended for any significant purchase. Bring a flashlight, tape measure, and if possible someone familiar with the equipment type. Run machines where permitted. Note serial numbers and ask KD staff any questions.

4

Set Your Maximum Bid

Before the auction closes, calculate your maximum, hammer price you're willing to pay, and factor in buyer's premium, shipping/rigging costs, and any refurbishment. Never bid more than you've budgeted including all-in costs.

5

Bid Online During the Auction

Log in to the bidding platform before the closing time. Place your bid and watch for competing bids. Auto-extend means the auction extends by a few minutes whenever a bid is placed in the closing window, keep monitoring until the lot truly closes.

6

Pay Your Invoice Promptly

After winning, you'll receive an invoice via email within a few hours of close. Payment is due per the auction's terms (often as short as 24 hours, so check your invoice immediately) via wire transfer or credit card. Late payment may result in forfeiture of the lot and the deposit.

7

Schedule Removal Within the Window

Removal windows are typically 5–10 business days after auction close. Contact your rigger or freight broker immediately after winning to schedule. Late removal incurs storage fees. All equipment leaves at buyer's expense.

Common Questions

Do I need to attend in person to bid?

No, all KD auctions are fully online. You can register and bid from anywhere in the world. We strongly recommend attending the inspection day in person for high-value purchases.

What is a buyer's premium?

A buyer's premium is a percentage added to the hammer price that you pay as the buyer. For example, if you win a lot at $10,000 with an 18% buyer's premium, your total invoice is $11,800.

Can I cancel a bid after placing it?

No, bids are binding. Once placed, a bid represents a legal commitment to purchase at that price. Review the terms before bidding and only bid what you intend to pay.

What happens if I win but can't pay?

Non-payment results in forfeiture of your deposit and the lot being relisted. You may also be banned from future KD auctions.
